2018/2019 Trent University Competitive Cheerleading Team

The Competitive Cheerleading team is a Level 4 Co-ed team that attends competitions with routines that incorporate cheer jumps, tumbling, stunts, and cheer dance. Listed below are the chosen athletes for this season's team.

Ali Lueth

Flyer, Front, and Base

Ali is in her second year at Trent University in the Teacher Education Stream, joining us for her first year with Trent Cheer. Before joining Trent Cheer Ali was a dancer and cites her favourite part of cheer her incredible team, who constantly encourage and support one another.

Amanda Henderson

Base

Amanda is in her first year at Trent University, studying Forensic Science and Biology. With 15 years of gymnastics experience under her belt, Amanda says her favourite part of cheerleading is tumbling! She's so talented that she can fall asleep in the splits!

Brooke MacDuff

Flyer

Brooke is in her third year of Psychology at Trent University, flying with Trent Cheer now for her third year in a row! Brooke draws on her 13 years of figure skating experience to master her balance and air positions when doing her favourite part of cheerleading: stunting!

Bryanna Mitchell

Base

Bry is in her second year at Trent University studying Forensics and Psychology, and is joining us for her second year on the team. Before joining Trent Cheer, Bryanna cheered at Black Widow Cheer Gym for three years. Her favourite part of cheerleading is bonding with the team and performing!

Callie Killeen

Base & Front

Callie is in her fourth year at Trent, and is joint-majoring in English and History in the Teacher Education Stream. This is her fourth year on the Trent Cheerleading team, including taking on the extra responsibility of competing additionally with the pom team last year. Before Cheer she had done dance for 16 years, and as a result her favourite part of cheerleading is the dance.

Ceilidh Delve

Flyer and Front

Ceilidh is in her fourth year at Trent in the Teacher’s Education Stream receiving her Bachelor’s of Arts and Science, and is joining us for her second year with Trent Cheerleading Teams, but her first year with the Trent Cheer competitive team! After competing with pom last year Ceilidh stepped in to fly for our PCA Nationals Competition while simultaneously coaching our Pom Team! Ceilidh’s favourite part of cheerleading is flying.

Chloe Todd Bachelder

Flyer

Chloe is in her third year at Trent University, working towards her Bachelor's of Social Work. This is Chloe's third year on the team, having originally joined the team as a rookie to the sport. Her favourite part of cheerleading is trying new things in the air, and seeing her improvements over the years.

Ciara is in her second year at Trent University studying Business Administration, and is rejoining us for her second year on the team. Before joining Trent Cheer, Ciara competed as a gymnast and as a result her favourite part of cheerleading is tumbling!

Ella is in her first year at Trent University studying Biology. Prior to joining Trent Cheer, Ella did gymnastics, competitive dance, and cheerleading. Drawing on this experience, her favourite parts of cheer are the dance section and stunting.

Emily Vachon

Base

Emily is in her third year of studying Psychology at Trent University, and rejoining us for her second year on the team. Emily draws on her experience with Niagara Scorpions and her high school cheer team when when working on one of her favourite parts of cheer: stunting. As one of our events coordinators, she is also able to bring into play her other favourite part of cheer: team bonding.

Emma Coleman

Flyer & Base

Emma is in second year at Trent, and on the team, majoring in French in the Teacher’s Education Stream. Before joining Trent Cheer Emma had been cheering for 9 years including with Kingston Elite, and her high school’s competitive team. Emma’s favourite part of cheerleading is “the feeling when your team pulls together to hit your routine.”

Haley Adair

Third

Haley is in her first year in the Trent University Nursing program, this year being her first year with not only Trent Cheer but cheerleading as a whole! Haley has six years of gymnastics from which she acquired her tumbling skills, which is also her favourite part of cheer!

Heather Richardson

Third

Heather is in her fourth year at Trent University studying in the Trent Nursing program, and is joining us for her second year with Trent Cheer. Before joining Trent Cheer, Heather danced for 16 years (9 of which were competitive). Her favourite parts of cheerleading are her teammates, dancing, and throwing her flyers in the air.

Holly Neilsen

Third

Holly is in her first year of the Trent University Nursing program! Holly comes to us with 3 years of cheerleading and 2 years of gymnastics experience, this includes 1 year of coaching cheerleading! Her favourite part of cheerleading is stunting and performing.

Jennifer Feeney

Base

Jen is in her third year at Trent University studying Forensic Science. Jen is returning for her second year on the team having joined Trent Cheer after coming to our stunt clinics to learn to base in the Spring of 2017! Incidentally, her favourite part of cheer is stunting!

Jeremy Sousa

Base

Jeremy is in his fourth year at Trent University studying Forensic Science, and is joining us for his third year  as a base and third with the team! Prior to joining Trent Cheer Jeremy competed with his high school team for three years! He cites stunting and also the team becoming a family as his favourite parts of cheerleading.

Third

Jessie is in her second year at Trent University studying Kinesiology, and is joining us for her first year on the team! Before joining Trent Cheer, Jessie had high school level dance and beginner level gymnastics experience. Her favourite part of cheer is coming together to support one another like a family.

Jocelyn Doyle

Base & Third

Josie is in her fourth year majoring in Psychology at Trent University, and joining us for her third year on the team! Josie has been dancing since she could walk, and cheering for what will be 7 years with this season included!  Her favourite parts of cheerleading are the dance and stunts! Additionally, Josie involves herself in many ways at Trent U including playing ultimate frisbee and soccer, and being apart of the sorority.

Joey is in his third year at Trent University majoring in Computer Science, and is joining us for his second year on the team. Before joining Trent Cheer Joey was an incredible high school basketball player! His favourite part of cheer is throwing people in the air.

Jordyn Hall

Flyer

Jordyn is in her second year at Trent University in the Trent Nursing Program, and is joining us for her second year with the team. Before joining Trent Cheer Jordyn cheered with Cheetahs Cheerleading from 2009-2015, and with Power Cheer Toronto from 2015-2017. Jordyn says her favourite part of cheerleading is “being thrown in the air! [and] the intensity of competition and hitting a clean run.”

Justina is in her first year at Trent University studying Biochemistry. Having been a gymnast for twelve years, Justina’s favourite part of cheerleading is tumbling!

Kaileigh is in her first year at Trent University studying Forensic Science. Before joining Trent Cheer, Kaileigh coached gymnastics and was an avid snowboarding and skiing instructor! Kaileigh’s favourite part of cheerleading is tumbling.

Kailyn Robertson

Kailyn is in her first year at Trent University in the Honours Science Program! Before joining Trent Cheer, Kailyn did 13 years of dance! Having also competed as a rugby player in high school, Kailyn’s strength shows through  as she's learned to throw her flyers seemingly effortlessly!

Kaylee is in her first year at Trent studying Forensic Science. Before joining Trent Cheer, Kaylee cheered for 10 years starting at level 2 and capping out at level 4. Her favourite part of cheerleading is stunting.

Larissa Stevenson

Third

Larissa is in her second year at Trent University majoring in English with an emphasis in primary education. This is her second year on the team, drawing on her experience as a gymnast from the past 12 years. Larissa says she enjoys working as a team and making friends, as well as seeing how the routine continues to evolve and improve with each practice.

Madison Ludlow

Maddie is in her second year of university having transferred to Trent to study Kinesiology this past fall. Before joining Trent Cheer, Maddie had been cheering competitively for 11 years including three trips to Worlds! She says her favourite parts of cheerleading are performing and the bond you create with your team.

Third

Makayla is in her third year at Trent University studying Biology in the Teacher Education Stream. Makala is joining us for her first year with Trent Cheer, but is returning for her 7th (non-consecutive) year of competitive cheerleading. Her favourite part of cheerleading is stunting.

Maya is in her first year at Trent University in the Social Work program. Before joining Trent Cheer, Maya had cheered cumulatively for four years. Her favourite part of cheerleading is being able to perform with an amazing team.

Michelle Arshad

Flyer

Michelle is in her second year at Trent University majoring in English in the Teacher Education Stream. Joining us for her second year on the team, Michelle also brings her 15 years of acro, jazz, and contemporary dance experience as well as four years of gymnastics! Her favourite part of cheer is as follows: “My all-time favourite part about cheerleading is the sense of community you build and becoming so comfortable with the people around [you] that you trust them to catch you if you fall (figuratively and literally).”

Morgain Miller

Morgain is in her second year of schooling, continuing her education at Fleming College, and joining us for her second year on the team. Morgain’s first ever organized sport to join was Trent Cheerleading after spending years trying to get a cheerleading team started at her high school to no avail. She loves stunting and how the cheer team is like a family.

Olivia is in her first year at Trent University studying Forensic Science. Before joining Trent Cheer, Olivia cheered for Lightening Cheerleading in North Bay. Olivia says her favourite part of cheer is competition day!

Rebecca is in her first year at Trent University in the Honours Science Program. Prior to joining Trent, Rebecca cheered for five years with Starburst Elite as a base, third, front, and flyer! Her favourite part of cheerleading is the stunting and the competitions.

Sarah is in her second year at Trent University studying Business and International Development, joining us for her second year on the team. Prior to joining Trent Cheer Sarah cheered for thirteen years, and brings that experience to her role as choreographer for the team. Her favourite part of cheerleading is performance!

Mascot

Wendell is in his first year of life, majoring in barking with an emphasis on being cute. Before coming to Trent Cheer he was even tinier, and not really doing much else. His favourite part of cheer is probably all the attention he gets, or possibly getting his picture taken.

 The Pom Team is a dance-based cheerleading team that performs at university sporting events, and competitions incorporating cheer jumps, pom poms, and hip-hop and jazz dance elements. Dancer

Alyssa is in her first year at Trent  University studying for her Bachelor’s of Social Work degree! Alyssa brings to Trent Pom, her dance experience as well as her enthusiasm from having always wanted to be on a cheer team!
Her favourite part so far has been meeting all the other girls.

Amelia is in her second year at Trent University studying in the Trent Nursing program, and joining Trent Pom for the second year. Before joining Trent Pom Amelia was a competitive dancer, which explains her favourite part of Pom: learning choreography!

Bri is in her third year at Trent studying Environmental and Resource Science! Before joining Trent Pom, Bri had done 5 years of dance and 7 years of gymnastics (4 of which were competitive)! Bri says her favourite part of Trent Pom being able to meet new people, outside of her school program.

Before joining Trent Pom, Gillian competed as a figure skater for most of her life before switching to Synchronized Skating. As well, she danced for 6 years in Irish dance. Gillian’s favourite part of Pom are the dance sections.

Ines is in her first year at Trent studying Biology. Before joining Trent Pom, Ines danced for 10 years including Contemporary, Ballet, and Jazz but took a two year break to become a competitive swimmer, before jumping right back into dance! Her favourite part of Pom is the atmosphere, learning new things (like jumps), and most importantly: making new friends.

Maya Lichtner is in her second year at Trent University studying in the Pre-Med Stream, and is joining us for her first year with Trent Pom. Maya has 15 years of dance experience including competing in jazz, lyrical, hip hop, and tap dance! With all this experience can come mishaps and last year Maya gave herself a concussion by kicking herself in the head during dance! Her favourite part of joining the Pom Team is making friends and competing fun routines.

Olivia is in her second year in the Trent Nursing Program and rejoining us for her second year with Trent Pom! Before joining Trent Pom however, Olivia had been a dancer for twelve years! Her experience includes ballet, jazz, contemporary, and tap dance! Her favourite part of being on the Pom team is meeting new people and making new friends.

Reagan is in her first year at Trent University majoring in Psychology. Before joining Trent Pom, Reagan was a dancer and a competitive figure skater for 17 years! Her favourite part of joining the pom team is meeting all the girls on the team.

Shyla is in her first year at Trent University studying in the Health Sciences program. Before joining the pom team, Shyla danced competitively for 16 years in lyrical, jazz, contemporary, hip-hop, macro, ballet, tap, and even some ballroom! Her favourite part of pom is learning new things and getting to know new people.

2018/2019 Trent University Cheerleading Executive Team

The executive team is the athletes put in charge to help coaches with behind-the-scenes work. This includes a captain for each team, events chairs, treasurers, a social media coordinator, and choreographers! These positions are usually for returning members, but those not chosen in the summer (marked TBD) will open up again for application to all members in the fall.

Team Captains

Cheer: Heather Richardson
Pom: Amelia Budd

This position can be described as a vice-chief executive officer for the Cheer Team, shall be responsible for representing the views of the members at all unofficial meetings and executive meetings, and shall be mitigate conflicts between members and/or executives. One captain is chosen for each team.

Choreographers

Cheer: Sarah Crook
Pom: Carrie Hillier

This position entails being in charge of combining music with stunts/dance/ and jumps to perform routines for competitions and varsity games. One is chosen for each team.

Events Chairs

Michelle Arshad & Emily Vachon

This position entails being in charge of coordinating fundraising events and annual performances, advertising varsity and non-varsity teams about game requests. This is a corroborative position as both people will be over-seeing the fundraising aspects and be in charge of social media platforms of these cheerleading teams.

Treasurers

Kailyn Robertson & Heather Richardson

There are two treasurers chosen, one senior and one junior. The senior treasurer will oversee all membership, uniform, transportation and expense fees for the group as a whole. Ensuring we are keeping good records of all money transactions. The junior treasurer will oversee money collection and keeping records for the pom team, they will be reporting to the senior treasurer.

Social Media Coordinators

Brooke MacDuff & Chloe Todd Bachelder

The social media coordinator will be in charge of making content and decisions for the social media accounts under the team's name. This includes Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, and the team's website.

Team Mascot

Wendell

This position is reserved for specifically the cutest member of Trent Cheer. The responsibilities and duties of the mascot include: bringing joy to the team, letting people hold and pet them, and protecting the team from wild tobogganers.
